How much does it cost to participate?
Registration is FREE!
Where is the run/walk?
This year's event is going VIRTUAL! Join us from your home, neighborhood, local park, or wherever you please as we take the steps together to support foster children.
What is a Virtual 5k?
The Steps for SOS Virtual 5K Run/Walk is an event you can walk, run, or bike at your own leisurely pace! Whether it is in your neighborhood, local park, or at home, you choose the time and place for your 5K and we will support you to the finish line! The Virtual 5K aims to raise awareness for the foster care population and raise funds to ensure the foster children at SOS Children’s Villages have the opportunity that every child deserves to succeed in life.
When is the Virtual 5k?
The Steps for SOS 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday May 15th. We will be posting videos throughout the morning and will celebrate our participants by sharing your pictures, stories, and videos! If the date does not work with your schedule, you are welcome to complete the 5K on the day that works best for you. Don’t forget to post pictures of you and your team doing your 5K! Be a part of our social media movement and tag us in your pictures using the hashtag #stepsforsos on Facebook and/or Instagram or send your photos to email@example.com.
How long will the run/walk take?
Most participants will finish the course by 10:00 am. Everyone is invited to join us on Facebook Live for festivities, awards, and our closing ceremony.
What time does it begin?
The virtual opening ceremony will begin at 8 AM! Stay on the look out for the email with day of event details.
What if it rains?
Steps for SOS will take place rain or shine.
Where does the money go?
Your money helps SOS fulfill our promise of healing, hope and home to the 72 foster children growing up in our Village in Coconut Creek and the 100 or so alumni we continue to help in South Florida.
How much should I raise?
We have a suggested $100 fundraising goal. This is not a requirement, but we encourage all of our runners and walkers to ask their friends to support the steps they make on behalf of our kids. Participants who raise $100 or more will receive a special event t-shirt.
Participants who raise $500 or more are our SOS CHAMPIONS and will receive exclusive benefits and incentive opportunities during the campaign.
How Can I Fundraise and Become an SOS Champion?
Easy! When registering for the event, make sure you make a personal fundraising page. Copy your fundraising page URL and post on social media, send emails, or text your network of friends, coworkers and family for support! For more fundraising ideas, visit our resources page.
